MTV’s Top Pop Group: Congratulations Mosaic

Written by: Rocky

Did this show just end early? Seems odd to have a season finale after only four episodes and with 6 groups still left. Anyway, the remaining 6 groups performed one last time. It figures that on the final show everyone would look and sound great. Where were these performances in the first 3 episodes?

Here are the performances of the remaining 6 groups:

America voted the top two groups: It came down to Ju-Taun and Mosaic, my favorites.

And the winner is *drum roll* - Mosaic. Check out their you tube channel

Here are all their performances on MTV’s Top Pop Group Season 1

Runners up - Ju-taun. Look for their album ‘Love Changes Things’. You can hear their music on their official myspace page

MTV’s Top Pop Group-Episode 3

Written by: Rocky

This week Omarion was the guest mentor and he offered the groups some great advice. I hope everyone appreciates the value of what they are being taught on this show.

I have no doubt that all these groups want to make it big in the music industry. But their lack of real experience and dedication is overshadowing their potential. Right now most of these groups are ‘opening acts’ not headliners. They need a lot more practice performing as a group if they want to make it. While this show is a crash course in performing in front of an audience, I don’t know if three months of practice will be enough.

This week we had a “Make It Your Own” Challenge, in which the seven remaining groups had to put their own spin on a top pop hit.

Performances:
Best: Mosaic and Ju-Taun
Good: NJ5ive and S1
Least memorable: Las Caprice
Worst: Jazmin
Eliminated: Concrete Rose

MTV’s Top Pop Group-Episode 2

Written by: Rocky

Last week I held off on voicing an opinion of MTV’s Top Pop Group because I realized there were production problems that needed to be worked on. Unfortunantly, it looks like the problems are here to stay. The editing looks like it’s being done by an intern. The judges comments are so jumbled that half the time you have to guess what they are trying to say. To make things worse, the sound production is terrible. This show feels like watching a local talent show, not a professional audition looking for the next pop sensation.

Some good things about the show:

Mosaic is an amazing a cappella group from Las Vegas. They have real talent and creativity but I’m not sure they can win over a radio fed audience.

Ju-Taun definitely has the talent to win this but their style may be too old school for this shows demographic audience.

NJ5IVE has the marketable package that MTV loves and should appeal to the young female voters watching the show.

Those are the groups I’m impressed with so far, check out all the performances from episode 2 and let me know who impressed you.
